The Malawi Union of the Blind (MUB) was established in 1994 as a local non-governmental organization of blind and partially sighted people. The main aim of forming MUB was to bring blind and partially sighted people together, create a common and unified voice, raise awareness on problems affecting persons with visual impairment and implementing courses of action to address identified needs. The aim was shaped from the situation existing at the time (marginalization in all fields of life, extreme poverty, unemployment, lack of own voice and denial of opportunities for advancement) and the need to bring about a more favorable situation for blind and partially sighted people and gradually improve their well-being and status.
