The project has started in Mangochi where 15 women were given training
in business between 29 June and 1st July 2020. This training was
followed by a smartphone literacy training for 15 women and 15 men
between 29 and 31 July 2020. At the end of the project, the trainees
received smartphones. Latim Matenje (MUB’s Programmes officer) is
responsible for the project. He described the experience as “very
glatifying”, “we have given them skills and phones for communication.
They are excited and confident. I hope they will succeed. I hope
Mangochi district officials, to whom we are talking, will ensure that
persons with disabilities are reasonably accommodated and participate
meaningfully in Mangochi district’s socio-economic development,” he
said.
